Happy Sunday, babes!
Today, Sunday’s are often tied to thoughts of hangovers, the “Sunday Scaries,” brunch, “lazy days,” etc… But when I think of growing up as a child, Sunday’s meant one thing (besides the obvious getting ready for the school week on Sunday night), it was God’s Day. It was a day for church, reflection and community.
Throughout my young adulthood, while I never lost my faith, I lost that community. As I ventured out of my home to attend college, I haven’t quite found the community that I had growing up. And I’ll admit, many times in my life, Sunday mornings consist of traveling or working or accomplishing that endless list of to-do’s that nobody warned you would come with being an adult. So for me, I don’t always have, or make, the time to attend a physical church service. I’d like to be more vigilant in finding a local church since we’ve settled and made a home with no plans to move anytime soon. But, I am also thankful that we live in a world of technology that has been able to bring a faith-based community that I do truly feel connected to right to me.
I’m really excited to share with you all my daily devotion, my go-to online bible study and the first ministry that I feel like a part of the community since childhood – Proverbs 31 Ministries.
What is Proverbs 31 Ministries?
Proverbs 31 Ministries is a non-denominational, non-profit Christian ministry for WOMEN. Yup. This is a ministry led by women, for women to help lead and develop their personal relationship with God. For me, this has meant a whole new level of my relationship with our Lord. Why? Because the messages have been FOR ME. They talk about questions and concerns that I have about my life as a woman, and thing issues that I face or will face, and what God says about those.
With Proverbs 31:10-31 as a guide, Proverbs 31 Ministries offers a variety of worship and study opportunities for women all over the world to grow in their faith, worship our Father and develop their own knowledge of the bible:
- Online Bible Studies (utilizing a blog and email to provide the message and Facebook to facilitate group discussions)
- Daily Radio Messages
- Daily online devotions (using a blog format and email to provide the message)
- Event Speakers
- First5 (an app that aims to start your morning with 5 minutes of God’s word and reflection each day)
- and more!
I was introduced to Proverbs 31 Ministries through their Podcast, during my search to find faith-based podcasts that were female oriented. During my search, I was finding it difficult to find one that I connected with, as so many were anti-feminism (weird when you’re literally searching “Faith-based podcasts for boss babes, amirite?)
After listening to the first P31 podcast, I immediately took my lunch to do some more research on the ministry and what they believe, their background and what they provide to their community. I was instantly impressed with who Proverbs 31 is, how it came about and the many offerings for today’s “modern woman” it provides! (I will say, I do disagree with their stance on what constitutes a holy marriage, as love is love is love is love. However, I am thankful that this has not been a topic of discussion in any form, let alone a hateful one, in any form of ministry that I have utilized from Proverbs 31.)
Proverbs 31 Ministries’ Offerings
I want to do a deep dive into the two Proverbs 31 Ministries’ offerings that I personally utilize on a nearly daily basis. The first is the P31 Podcast.
Each time I listen to an episode of the P31 Podcast, I’m left wishing they posted an episode daily, or at least weekly. Unfortunately, it is a newer form of worship for Proverbs 31 Ministries and therefore, I don’t think they’ve quite gotten in the flow of it enough to post more often. However, when they do, I feel so empowered and inspired!
The podcast is led by staff members and often a “special guest.” It takes a deep dive into scripture and how it is applicable to women in any season of life. The hosts are funny, personable and transparent – all key to an engaging podcast. The podcast’s mission is “to intersect God’s word with the real, hard places we all experience.” And they do just that, from discussing how easy it is to compare ourselves with one another to understanding our expectations of others, they guide you through a discussion that both empowers you to take a hard look at yourself and your feelings through God’s word and validates your feelings – this second part isn’t something that I have found anywhere else.
The second form of worship that I want to share with you all is the First5 app. First5 is an app designed to start your day with God’s word. After a couple of months listening to the podcast and participating in an online bible study, I found the First5 app. Each day, a 5-minute lesson, is shared through the app. It offers teachings from the bible and a thought-provoking discussion point for you to apply throughout your day.
There is a large First5 writing team, so each daily lesson is different from the last, all rooted in God’s word.
I love the thought behind this app, that you root your morning in God’s word before anything else. I’ve even committed to opening this app and participating in the daily lesson before Instagram! It is crazy and embarrassing what a challenge that has been, and I’ve noticed myself opening Instagram in my early-morning drowsy state and instantly thinking “Oh crap!” and closing it out to switch to the First5 app. I’m definitely breaking a habit here!
But I love how starting my day out this way has changed my attitude throughout the rest of the day! It’s crazy how those first few minutes can affect the rest of your life. If you’re ready to make the commitment to give your first 5 minutes each day to God (instead of Instagram) download the First5 app here:
All-in-all, Proverbs 31 Ministries has provided me with the faith-based, female-oriented, educational community that I was looking for as an adult. It has given me a place to learn and worship in a convenient manner, and one that doesn’t make me feel shameful for the feelings that I have, but instead empowers me to utilize God’s word to change them if needed. If you’re looking for something similar in your life, I hope that you find it with Proverbs 31 Ministries as well. If you have any questions about my experience with Proverbs 31 Ministries, please feel free to shoot me a DM on Instagram or comment below! I’m so happy to share more thoughts and engage in a discussion with you about your own faith journey (but only 5 minutes after I wake up!)
